My first hip-hop record (cassette) ever was Run DMC's self titled debut album. I was nine years old. It marks the day I fell in love with hip-hop. I love hip-hop as much today as I did back when "Hard Times" first blasted through my walkman. I stayed up all night listening to the album over and over. Run DMC changed my life. Run DMC awoke in me a love of language, resistance, defiance, and drums that remains a guiding truth in my life today. Run DMC lives in my music, poetry, politics, photography, fashion, philosophy, spirituality and worldview. Thank you Run DMC. Rest in peace Jam Master Jay.
